What is ORCID?
ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that you own and control. Your ORCID iD distinguishes you from every other researcher. You can connect your ORCID iD with your professional information, such as your affiliations, grants, and publications. Certain publishers and funders now require you to have an ORCID iD.
ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organisation and registering for an ORCID iD is free at orcid.org/register

Who is this guide for?
This guide is for academic staff and PhD students at UCA, to support them with their research, in conjunction with the Library’s Scholarly Communications guides.
How to register
Registering for an ORCID iD is free, following these simple steps:
ORCID and UCARO
You can add a link to your ORCID profile from UCA Research Online (UCARO) by logging in and entering your ORCID iD number within your research profile on UCARO.
You can also export a list of your research outputs from UCARO and then import them into ORCID, to avoid re-entering the details manually. Contact ucaro@uca.ac.uk for help.
