Hello and welcome to the Connect newsletter which highlights service and resource updates to help you make effective use of your  library and learning services.

Welcome to new and returning student and staff
There has been a few changes for the new academic year - the best place to start is the new Welcome to the Library.  A few highlights - 

  • Newspapers and many more magazines are available online.
  • There are over 200,000 electronic books now available.
  • Dissertations and extended research projects are now online.
  • There are new Academic Skills guides, including Learn to Learn and Academic Integrity.
  • LibrarySearch has been refreshed.
  • Virtual shelf browsing and you may also like... can now be found on LibrarySearch.
  • Click & Collect and Scan & Deliver are here to stay.
  • Computer and space booking is no longer required.
  • The shelves are open for browsing.

So it's back to business with a few enhancements.  Welcome back everyone...  and remember we are here to help - Contact the Library.

Your Favourites - Newspapers and Magazines

The library service now provides you with a large range of newspapers and magazines in electronic format.  These are provided by PressReader, Exact Editions and Flipster. Alternatively, you can use the Journals A-Z to find specific titles. Just like reading a print magazine, you can flick through the pages and view all the images

Since we set up access to PressReader in May here’s the top four  you’ve been reading - 

Daily Telegraph  9,474 articles
Spirit and Destiny 1,827 articles
The Guardian 1,470 articles
BBC Good Food 1,157 articles

PressReader provides interactive, digital access to nearly 7,000 of the world’s best newspapers and magazines.

Subject Resources

The best way to get started when looking for library resources which are relevant to your student area is Subject Resources on myLibrary.

Subjects are arranged alphabetically and each subject area gives you access to relevant information about and access to books, journals. databases, image/moving image resources and archives, for example Computing and Games -

We are here to help - in person or online.

Gateway
Visit your campus Gateway (based in the Library) who can support you with information, advice and guidance on library, IT and student services.

Online
You can Ask a Question at anytime, or Chat live with one of the team between 11.00-12.00 on Tuesday and Thursday.

Our teams of Liaison Librarians and Learning Development Tutors are all available to help you with your studies, you will meet them when they deliver teaching as part of your course, you can book individual Tutorials and they offer a recorded Webinar programme which you will start in October.

The New Face of Archives & Special Collections

Archives & Special Collections has a new online face - the catalogue has been updated making it easier to navigate and search - with a new A-Z list of all the collections, popular search buttons, and useful FAQs – helping you to find the resources you need when you need them.  Take a look at - http://archives.ucreative.ac.uk.

Dissertations and Extended Research Projects

ResourceBank, has had a refresh making it easier to find what you need, you can explore collections of -

  • past dissertations
  • archive materials
  • artists books
  • and the collection is continuing to grow...

The latest dissertations and extended research projects from the last academic year have now been uploaded to ResourceBank.  There are some truly fascinating and insightful examples of academic writing that you can view online.

Paperpile On the Move!

paperpile logoPaperpile is a web-based reference management tool which enables you to record your research, and to produce bibliographies and citations in the UCA Harvard style.
 
Paperpile have recently launched a mobile app for iOS and Android. The app allows you to -

  • add references to your account on the go
  • allows you to comfortably read and annotate articles that you have in your account
  • sync references from the app to the website so that you always have access to all your references and articles no matter which device you use
